With the crime rate steadily increasing, it can be hard to feel safe in an unguarded home. Security cameras can help, but most of them are unsightly and intimidating to set-up, plus its expensive upkeep can be a frequent financial strain – this is where Arlo is different.

Arlo is a leading Smart security brand with a full range of wired and wireless top-of-the-line cameras for both indoor and outdoor monitoring. They are affordable and suitable for both basic and advanced security needs. Arlo is one of the most preferred smart security brands because of its effortless installation process. Anyone from grandparents to tech nerds can get it set-up anywhere easily.

There are four cameras within Arlos wireless range – Arlo Pro, Arlo Pro 2, Arlo Pro 3, and Arlo Ultra.

All, except Arlo Pro, come with 2-way audio- a microphone built into the device- that lets you listen and talk back through your phone to whoever is outside.

Arlo smart home cameras

1. Arlo Pro

The basic option within Arlo’s wireless range, at 720p, Arlo pro has a decent video resolution and has a 110-degree field of view, which is narrow compared to other models. It doesn’t have a 2-way audio feature, but it does have a black and white night vision mode.

2. Arlo Pro 2

A refined version of Arlo Pro, Arlo Pro 2 offers a slightly improved video quality at 1080p HD. This is a good resolution for general purposes but may fail to capture the fine details, which can be a slight problem if a crime takes place, and you need more information about the perpetrator. At 130°, it has a slightly wider field of view than Arlo Pro.  It comes with a rechargeable battery and a three-second look back feature, which gives you a quick glimpse of what triggered the camera to activate. It also has a more advanced monitoring system and gives you the option to record continuously.

3. Arlo Pro 3

This model provides high definition 2K video resolution and a field of view of 160°. It has two-way audio, motion detection, and color vision. It comes with a magnetic mount that you can twist and angle in any position you want. This is the perfect smart security camera option for most households.

4. Arlo Ultra

Touted to be the most powerful option in this range, Arlo Ultra comes with an ultra-crisp 4K video resolution that captures even the little details and has a whopping 180° viewing field with 12x zoom capability. It has color vision, 2-way audio, and noise-canceling audio, just like Arlo pro 3.

Arlo Smart Home Indoor Cameras

Arlo has two cameras exclusively designed for indoor use – Arlo Q and Arlo Q Plus.

While Arlo Q is intended for home security needs, Arlo Q pro is more geared towards businesses. But both products do a decent job of making security seamless.

Security cameras are useless if the video ends up blurry and distorted. Both Arlo Q and Q Plus have a 1080p HD video quality that outputs clear and crisp visuals.  Both have two-way audio and 8X zoom feature, along with a 24 x 7 recording capability.

Arlo Q and Q Plus have night vision and a wide 130-degree viewing field, which is quite wide if you set it up at one of the corners of the room.  If something unusual props up within that field, you will instantly receive alerts through your app. Both models also come with Arlo’s basic plan, which gives you free access to past seven days worth of recorded audio or video footage.

Arlo Smart Home Mobile Camera

Arlo Go works using cellular networks (LTE) instead of Wi-Fi, so all you need is a mobile connection to make this camera work. This is great if you have an internet plan with an unreliable wireless connection.

Go comes with a rechargeable battery that can last for several weeks.  With 720p, it has an average video resolution and has live streaming capabilities. Its also equipped with night vision capabilities and will send you alerts for motion or sound triggers.

Arlo Baby Camera

With its adorable bunny design, the Arlo Baby Camera easily fits as a decor piece in the nursery, while also giving you much needed access to check on your little one when you are away.

Arlo Baby is an all-in-one smart baby monitor with 1080p HD crystal-clear video resolution. It has an advanced night vision feature that precisely relays your baby’s every move even in pitch darkness.

Arlo Baby comes with temperature and air quality sensors and a night light that changes colors. It also has a smart music player that plays lullabies or white noise to help your baby sleep better. If your little one wakes up in the middle of the night crying, you will immediately get an alert for that.

Arlo Smart Home Wired Cameras

Arlo cameras work wireless but also wired. You have the option to plug in Arlo Pro, Pro 2, Pro 3, and Ultra. There are some cases where having a wired alternative comes in handy – for example, if you don’t have enough time to charge your batteries or if you want a reliable power supply to record 24X7 without draining your battery.

Arlo Smart Home: Smart Plan

With an Arlo smart subscription, you can quickly get notifications that matter along with a range of other sophisticated video monitoring features. There are several smart plans available, and they let you record in 2K or 4K.

The subscription also comes with an object detection feature that can differentiate between people, vehicles, animals, packages, smoke detector alarm, etc. So instead of receiving a general notification, you will receive real-time data-rich alerts when someone or something is detected near your home.

With a smart plan, you will also be able to create focus zones within the camera’s field of view. This way, you only receive alerts when the camera to text activity within the selected zones.

Arlo  SmartHub: Get A Connected Experience

Arlo SmartHub is compatible with all Arlo wireless cameras except Arlo Go. It lets you protect the recorded footage by establishing a secure connection to the internet via your router. It also helps regulate Wi-Fi traffic load and improves the battery life of your camera batteries. The SmartHub comes with built-in Z-Wave and Zigbee radios.

Arlo SmartHub is a must-have if you’re working with more than one Arlo smart home security camera, with each bringing in separate footage.

Arlo Homekit, Arlo Pro 2 Homekit, and Arlo Pro 3 Homekit

If you have several smart devices, the chances are that instead of using the individual device-specific app, you instead use the Home App to control them all. Arlo offers Homekit support for Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 via Base Station VMB4000 and VMB4500. Arlo HomeKit support enables Pro and Pro 2 owners to access video streams from the security camera right within the Home app. This way, you won’t have to access the Arlo app repeatedly. You can ask Apple’s Siri to play footage from a specific camera live.

Earlier this year, Arlo rolled out Apple Homekit support for Arlo Pro 3 cameras as well that are connected with VMB4540 SmartHub. Sadly, Arlo Ultra users will have to wait a little longer to receive HomeKit support.

Final Thoughts

Securing your home against crimes doesn’t have to be technically or financially extravagant. Along with the cameras, Arlo also has doorbell video and audio cameras and security light options to create a safe, robust, and impenetrable residential ecosystem. You can use these in conjunction with the cameras mentioned above. But even if you purchase a standalone wired or wireless Arlo Smart Home security camera, your house will be much safer.

These cameras are easy to set-up and run and are a smart investment. With real-time notifications, comprehensive security features, intelligent insights, and 24×7 recording ability, Arlo Smart Home security cameras are hard to beat.
